GLAZUNOV Rêverie orientale for clarinet and string quartet
BORODIN String Quartet No 2 in D major
HAYDN String Quartet in C major, Op 54 No.2
WEBER Clarinet Quintet, Op 34
Violin Madeleine Mitchell
Violin Katherine Shave
Viola Gustav Clarkson
Cello Sebastian Comberti
Clarinet Tony Lamb
In this enticing programme, the sensuous and exotic sounds of the East are contrasted with two masterworks from the Austro-German tradition. Glazunov’s dreamy and reflective Rêverie orientale is paired with one of the best loved of all string quartets, in which Borodin combines magical sonorities with wholehearted emotion and wonderful lyricism. After the interval one of Haydn’s most passionate and inventive quartets is followed by Weber’s dramatic and ebullient Clarinet Quintet.
