Villa In Canto, from Verona, Italy,  recently performed L’Elisir D’Amore at the Normansfield Theatre with wonderful reviews.  They are now returning to perform La Serva Padrona and Popular Arias.

Pergolesi’s comic work with the translated title of “Maid as Mistress” was originally written as an intermezzo to be performed between acts of his opera seria in 1733.  This little masterpiece has continued to be performed because of its intimacy and the universal theme of a cunning maid and her ageing master.

“La serva pardona” broke the conventions of the day to offer a trim and tuneful series of scenes between the beautiful maid, Serpina, and her master, Uberto.  Pergolesi’s fresh and inventive writing makes us wish he could have written more but he died at the very early age of 26.

The cast is:- Serpina : Milena Dobrzycka, Vespone: Martina Pirani,

Uberto: Ferruccio Finetti

Tickets are £20 and available from 0333 1212 300 or email
