Qigong – Chinese Health Exercise Class

Qigong – Chinese Health Exercise class

Mondays, 7.30pm to 8.30pm

contact:  tse.tse@ntlworld.com for more information

What is Qigong? Qigong is an Chinese health excercise but it is different than pilates or aerobics or even yoga.  This because the movements are based upon the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Yin/Yang and Five Element theory. Qigong helps us to balance the body and body.  We have pain and illness because our Qi (energy) cannot flow. When Qi is blocked for a long time, illness and disease can develop. There are many factors that can contribute to illness. Some of the most common are stress, worry, genetic disposition for certain diseases, poor diet and lack of exercise. Today people we over use our minds as we are bombarded with social media, emails and mobile phoning so it is easy to have stress as our everyday companion. However, with Qigong practise, we will find ourselves becoming more relaxed and calm.  When the body is relaxed, the Qi can flow more and our thoughts will be more clear.  It is simple, the more Qi we have, the better we will feel. Most people who practise Qigong will find that they worry less, feel better and are happier.  It is not magic…it is just your Qigong practise making you healthy by making the immune system, bone marrow and Qi strong. This is how Qigong fights illness and make us live longer and happier lives.

Kunlun Dayan Qigong Kunlun is a tall mountain range in Western China where Daoist went to cultivate. Da means Great and Yan means Wild Goose. The Kunlun mountains are also home to the Bar Headed Goose, a goose so special that it can fly through the Himilayan mountains. It lives longer and can fly and live in more strenuous conditions than other geese. That is why the Daoists began to imitate the movements of the Da Yan, to help them live longer and healthier lives. This is how they developed the Dayan (Wild Goose) Qigong system over 1600 years ago.

Movements & Meditation The Dayan (Wild Goose) Qigong system also has meditation. There are many special Qigong meditations:-  some standing, some sitting, some with the eyes closed, some with eyes open. Most people will find the Qigong meditation easy to follow and practise. Meditation helps us to store the Qi we gather through our practise and helps the body to heal itself and calm the mind. In the Dayan Qigong system, there are many different Qigong forms but you will start with a set of movements called Balancing Gong and then Healthy Living Gong. These give you a good foundation for the later forms, including Dayan Qigong a form which imitates movements of the Wild Goose, like fluttering, flying over the ocean and sleeping peacefully.

Classes Times Classes are each week on Monday at 7:30pm.  You will be taught a lesson based upon where you are in the syllabus. So if you are away on holiday, you will not miss out and you can carry on from where you left off.  There will be different levels of students in the class. Some people are beginners and some are more advanced and they can share with you their own experiences of practising Qigong.
